The following is a note of thanks that I sent out to our Surfside Kids Volunteer Leaders. I hope the entire Harborside family knows that these wonderful folks made Easter real for scores of children and their families.
Soli Deo Gloria (Latin for Glory to God Alone)
I did not count how many are on this email but I recognize that there are a multitude of you. This makes perfect sense as I am sure you have heard the old quote: “It takes a village to raise a child.” Thank you for building our Surfside Kids village. Our Easter events were amazing. The Easter Egg Drop brought about 600 people and attendance was roughly 50% Harborsiders and 50% new visitors to our church; truly an outreach event for OUTREACH Week. Several families who stepped onto our campus for the first time for the Egg Drop came back on Easter Sunday. Pray with me that they will be back again. As important as outreach is, I get just as much pleasure in seeing our own "family" connecting and in fellowship, whether by dodging eggs as they dropped or making sure each child had a few eggs in their basket. Thank you if you helped make this a fun and successful event.
Resurrection Sunday was amazing! Highlights:
- Kickoff of "Mad Science" at our 8:30 THE CURRENT series (yes, we played with fire and dry ice!)
- New volunteer leaders in our classrooms (welcome!)
- The Easter Story Walk including Roman soldiers and an empty tomb
- Worship in a tent for elementary, and
- Worship in "the BIG room" for pre-schoolers
- An overflow classroom in the Marina
- New folks and familiar faces rocking babies and toddlers
- A smile on virtually every face.
As a staff, we always debrief - what went well, what could have been better? One staff member commented on the SSK Easter programming and said something to this effect: "I remember maybe one Easter from when I was little. I feel confident that this Easter will be the one the Harborside kids will remember into adulthood." How does it get better? For the glory of God I thank you for all that you contributed to make memories and to make Jesus a little more real for these families.
To so many of you are regular leaders in our department: Your crowns will be many, my friends. Thank you. (P.S. If your child volunteered and does not have email, please share this with them!) If your service with us at the Egg Drop or on Easter was new and you are hooked: Please let us know how we can plug you in; we would love to have you become a part of our SSK family! These kids and leaders will change your heart.
Psalm 71:17-18 Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.
