Out Of This World!
Last summer, amid several hundred pint-sized but big-hearted Superheroes, we experienced an amazing Adventure Week VBS. During six solid days of teaching our children that “God Is In Action,” we worshiped, played games, and made really cool Superhero capes. I will never forget the moment that defined the week for me. On that Friday, our wonderful storyteller Mr. Rick asked the children to bow their heads, close their eyes, and listen with their hearts as he said the prayer of salvation. Completely unprompted, 325 little souls repeated the prayer after him. Standing in the sound booth at the back of the room, I literally dropped to my knees in tears, moved to my core. (And the tears flow again as I write this.)
Still new to this ministry position at that time, I was so influenced by my Adventure Week experience that I changed our approach on how we minister every Sunday. When asked about our ministry, I describe it as a pie cut into thirds. One third of our priorities are with the children, one third are with the parents of our children, and the final third of our priorities are with you, our wonderful volunteers. Our kids, our parents, and our volunteers deserve nothing less than excellence. That is our great desire. Because our God deserves all the glory of that excellence.
Please know that we pray for you weekly, if not daily. We want to make your serving experience as much a blessing for you as it is for our children. You are serving as a reminder of God’s promises. He promised to be our Savior, always be with us, carry us, teach us, and be our strength. Because of His promises, you and I are part of a family that reaches beyond time and into eternity. Without you, none of this would be possible – not Sundays, not Sneak Peek, not Adventure Week.
We at Surfside Kids have already been in prayer for this summer’s Adventure Week – “Out Of This World” – August 4-8, with our final day being Sunday, Aug. 10. I hope you will join us in our prayers as God lays the foundation for what can be a life-changing week for children, youth and adults.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you for your service and pray for your part in this Sunday’s Adventure Week Sneak Peek.
