Praying for Blessings
Have you ever found yourself teaching your kids something and stopped in your tracks because of goosebumps? I am not talking about the "ouch I just burnt my arm making cookies" or "caught a whiff of a dirty diaper" goosebumps. I am talking about those moments when you feel God speaking to you through whatever you are in the midst of. I remember being in college, teaching Kindergarten Sunday School and being hit in the heart with what felt like a 2 by 4 while "teaching" the little ones about Samson. Today it happened again...
My kids and I are studying The Prayer of Jabez this Summer at home. Jabez, whose name means "pain" was born into a generation when names determined fate. When we read his prayer in 1 Chronicles we read how a simple prayer that he dared to pray changed that fate. I posted his prayer above.
A few weeks back, my kids and I read about daring to ask God to bless us. When was the last time you dared we as parents (aka "grown ups") prayed for God to bless us? If we truly trust that God loves us more than we know, knows what makes us happy (better than we do), and wants to hear from us... why are we not praying this more? That was the question that stopped me in my tracks and brought on the goosebumps.
Dare to pray for God to bless you. Dare to pray for God to change your fate at work, home, or in your relationships with others. Dare to pray like Jabez. Who knows what God might do next. :)
